The Urbino Duke Palace
The palace, owned by Federico da Montefeltro, was originally half a royal palace half a castle, but after few years there were some many talented artists interested in it that it became a Renaissance masterpiece symbol.
The construction work started in 1455 with Pasquino da Montepuciano e Michele di Giovanni da Fiesole (creators of the long two-hole front). After them the construction works were followed by Luciano di Laurana transforming the palace from 1466 when the palace was centralized around a courtyard, the Honoured Courtyard which with its elegant and splendid arches constitutes in itself a masterpiece. Big internal halls were built after an accurate and deep studies of light and shadows effects, the west facade built with three loggia overlapped and the construction of the two elegant cusp tower. In this palace every single detail is a masterpiece: the Throne Hall with its impressive dimensions (35m x 15m), Angels Hall with its splendid fireplace from the XV century sculpted by Domenico Rosselli) and The Wakes Hall which is mentioned by the Castiglione in “The Flattener. Each hall have splendid ceilings and inlays at the doors and walls. The Duke Hall is a small atmosphere made out of wood pieces, where each wall shows illusionistic and dead nature, all of that done under the guide of Baccio Pontello and including some works done by Botticelli.
